Easter Cruise to Christian Cove Resort 2004

We have planned our first boating trip this year to Christian Cove Resort Easter Weekend. While talking to others about our plan an Alouette Power Squadron rendezvous began to take shape. Please feel free to join us at Christian Cove Resort.

Christian Cove Resort is in Pitt Lake. There is nature trails, campfire in lakeshore fire pit, horseshoe pitch, and we will create our fun. Bring along those bocce balls and other toys. Follow the Pitt River to the markers then follow the markers into the lake.

And here's how it went........!

Summer Cruise to Desolation Sound
& Gulf Islands 2004

Most of our time out will be spent in the Desolation Sound area with Ross and Ann on the Brandysnap (Power vessel) and ourselves on the Seahaven (Sailing vessel), latter on we will be heading for the Gulf Islands to the South. As you can see we welcome both Power and Sailing vessels on this trip. We will be looking for as many of you as possible to join us on this wonderful ocean of fantastic harbours.

And here's how it went........!

Summer 2004 Desolation Sound Cruise

Well I guess the Most of the summer excursions are over and we hope that you had as good a summer as we did.

It started with us taking the Grandchildren to Pender Harbour for a week at the 1st of July. We then headed to Desolation Sound with Wendy and Al Thomas in their vessel the Pairagrins.

At a later date we met up with Ross and Ann Wright in their vessel BRANDYSNAP. After visiting most of the usual anchorages like Fox Island, Copeland Islands, Squirrel Cove, Rosco Bay, Prideaux Haven, Tenedos, Grace Harbour and of course that must stop at Lund for one of the best ice-cream cones, second only to that of Maple Bays, it was then time to change course.

With us heading down to tour the Southern Gulf Islands with Al & Wendy while Ross & Ann headed further up north. It was a good decision for us because on the second day we discovered that our water pump was leaking and had to pull into Pender Harbour for repairs. After a short layover we were once again back on our way down South.

Our first stop was Smugglers cove and then to Nanaimo to meet up with Mike & Jaynie Mezzabarba on their vessel MISTY BLUE. Unfortunately their vessel was high and dry having the motor replaced but that’s another story. This gave us the opportunity to have our vessel hauled out and the bottom pressure washed and painted.

We then set sail for Dodds Narrows and headed for Pirates Cove but on the way Mike & Jaynie had some problems and had to turn back, but were able to catch up the next day. This is where we saw some of the scariest wildlife I have ever seen, there on another Buccaneer 305, were three naked old men going swimming with at least fifty other boats looking on. I might add that this was Mike & Jaynie’s first voyage and they did extremely well but were quite shocked to see such a sight.

We then headed down to Maple Bay to meet up with Ken & Cathy Mcallister who are past members, and of course a great meal at the Pub. That same day Al & Wendy caught up with us again. The next day Mike & Jaynie had to head back because of a prior engagement so we said our good bye’s and headed down to Todd Inlet with Al & Wendy. Todd Inlet wraps itself around Butchart Gardens, so on the Saturday night enjoyed a wonderful display of music and fireworks.

Fulford Harbour was our next stop to meet up with Hugh & Karen Preddy, Hugh is one of Alouettes’ Past Commanders. Little did we know that we would be treated to some of their wonderful home grown produce above and beyond the call one might say and we spent a delightful evening sampling the fruits of their garden.

From there we headed for Montague Harbour and with a little difficulty due to the wind we were able to tie to a mooring buoy where we stayed for the next two days because of the weather. As the weather was turning we decided to head for home as did Al & Wendy, fortunately the next two days were perfect for traveling and we sailed into Pender Harbour with the good weather behind us. Home at last! We were away for about two months and it was fantastic but home always looks good.

Alouette Goes Christian....

Cove, that is, and what better place to be for Easter than at an aptly named beautiful spot in Pitt Lake. There we were three lone Alouette Squadron boats under the watchful eyes of owners/managers/planners, etc. Ran Gray and wife Ally, who provided more than perfect weather for an unforgettable weekend, and at spot that is so close.

As the crews assembled for the glittery Hoodinger (whatchamacallit), -hanging aboard the MV Cinnabar, compliments of the owners of Ultimate Affair, and joined by the Brandysnap, it became evident one captain had air conditioning in his shorts that had not been planned via an unraveled section of his rear seam. You also knew it was the first wearing of the season as the legs below the aforementioned legless pants were visibly white unlike his facial area which glowed red from the many, many comments that followed the pointing of fingers to his predicament. Some of the loudest merriment came from another male member (don’t even think it) enjoying the hilarity of the event until it was discovered by others that his ‘wee willy’ may be trying to escape. (The jokes and comments that followed all this embarrassment cannot be printed in a family paper.)

Meanwhile, the MV Cinnabar enjoyed its new hoodinger as it appeared to sparkle even more with the merriment of the occasion as the sun slowly disappeared behind western mountaintops.

Spurred on by refreshments and good fellowship, the following are random comments and over-heard comments through the weekend:

  • With the cooling of the setting sun, a female crewmember decided it was "time to put on the rest of her pants".

  • As electric power cords were being attached to sources, a male crew remarked he "wasn’t long enough either", to which a fellow boater suggested he shut up as the roving reporter was at hand.

  • As a blue cloud rolled across the lake, someone uttered "damn diesels".

  • Free advice came to one of the male crew that "you have to suck up once in awhile" in reference to keeping the Mrs. happy.

  • "If you can’t be good, be careful, and if you can’t be careful, don’t name it after me."

  • "It only runs out of gas when it doesn’t have enough."

  • "You guys will get me if I fall in….right?…..right?"

  • A reference to certain female crewmembers as "Baby Beluga and Killer Whale" earned the speaker many hisses.

  • The captain of Brandysnap, as he took his female dogs for their early morning stroll, called them "The Squat Team".

  • "It’s not nice to play with Grandpa’s dentures until he’s gone."

But, to all of you who didn’t make this three-day cruise, you missed something that we always enjoy. the companionship and enjoyment of fellow squadron members. It was a super weekend, and we of the MV Cinnabar thank our fellow ‘sailors’ for their friendship and good times.
